500,000 HD DVD players to be sold by end of the month?
08 Nov 2007 16:37The popularity of HD DVD is not diminishing and a whopping 500,000 compliant players will be snapped up by the end of November.
That is according to a report in Home Media Magazine, which claims that supporters of the format are expecting the volume of sales as a result of a recent price cut by Toshiba.
It is thought that the decision by the electronics giant to lower the price of the HD-A2 HD DVD player in the US saw sales of the home entertainment gadget reach 100,000 units last week.
The magazine reports that until last weekend 320,000 units had been sold, so combined with the 100,000 shifted after it was made cheaper Toshiba could easily make the half a million mark with the player by November 30th.
While there would still more Blu-ray Disc players in consumers' homes it is a good indication that HD is not going to give up the chance to be top second gen format without a fight.
