Demand up for HD channels
08 Nov 2007 16:38High definition is clearly all the rage, if recent data from a US HD content provider is anything to go by.
DIRECTV revealed yesterday (November 7th) that revenue for its products, which includes 70 HDTV channels, rose by an impressive 18 per cent in the three month period from July to September thanks to consumer demand.
Revenue jumped from $3.7 billion (£1.7 billion) to $4.3 billion (£2 billion) when compared to the same period last year.
In addition, the company revealed that it gained an extra 240,000 subscribers during the period which equates to an increase of 45 per cent and bring the total number of customers up to 16 million.
This is perhaps a clear indication that a lot more people are shopping for HDTVs.
DIRECTV chief executive Chase Carey said: "Significantly greater sales of High-Definition and Digital Video Recorder services to higher quality subscribers are having an extremely positive impact."
