It's Star Trek, but not as we know it

17 Dec 2007 18:14

Leonard Nimoy Star Trek has made it to high-definition video in the form of the newly remastered season one HD DVD boxset.

There had been some initial fears from the notoriously dedicated army of Star Trek fans over the announcement that the new versions were to come with a range of enhanced special effects. However, according to Diane Werts of newsday.com these fears may not have been justified as the changes are "not so intrusive".

In fact, Ms Werts states that not only do the remastered editions not damage the original 1960's television series, they also add a veneer of reality that exposes something of the series that has not been seen before.

"Who knew Mr Sulu wore such blue eye shadow?," she said.

The Star Trek franchise is set to be revived next year under the direction of Lost co-creator JJ Abrams. This week, MTV news revealed that the teaser trailer for the movie would feature ahead of the writer's new film - Cloverfield.
