Michael Bay enters the format war

05 Dec 2007 14:15

Transformers helmer Michael Bay In the same week that a report from Sony, the company behind Blu-ray, claimed that its format had accounted for 95 per cent of the HD market in Australia, Hollywood mega-director Michael Bay has weighed into the battle.

According to Cnet.com, Mr Bay has stated in a post on his official website that the whole battle for supremacy between Blu-ray and HD DVD is underlined by the fact that Microsoft are waiting in the wings hoping both will fail.

"Microsoft wants both formats to fail so they can be heroes and make the world move to digital downloads. That is the dirty secret no one is talking about," Mr Bay wrote.

Earlier this year, Mr Bay was forced to retract a post that said he would not be directing a sequel to Transformers as the studio behind the project, Paramount, had switched its allegiance to HD DVD.

Undoubtedly, the battle between all of the formats will continue and the subsequent competition in the market can only be good news for consumers, who will be faced with a broader range of home entertainment options.
