New light-source technology from Panasonic A new LCD television from Panasonic is taking advantage of the company's new light-source technology which intends to boost its lifespan, reports HDTV News.

The new PT61LCX70 is equipped with the pioneering LIght FIdelity technology which is designed to bring longer light-source life, quick start-up time and high colour fidelity for projection displays.

Most LCD projection TVs use High Intensity Discharge lamps which contain electrodes that eventually deteriorate and affect brightness and sometimes even the lamp itself.

However, LIFI works without electrodes and so can guarantee a more stable performance and a longer lifespan.

It is also this technology that gives the TV such great colours, with the light source offering "full spectrum illumination that faithfully reproduces brilliant vibrant colours".

The television also offers great compatibility, boasting three high-definition multimedia interface inputs to allow viewers to use the HDTV with the rest of their existing entertainment system.

Panasonic was founded in 1918 in Osaka, Japan by Konosuke Matsushita and has grown from just three employees to over 260,000 people worldwide.
