Online shopping with HD DVD

04 Oct 2007 12:43

Will Evan Almighty inspire you to shop? Have you ever sat down and watched a great film on your high definition TV and suddenly had an urge to go shopping?

Perhaps you've spied an actor wearing a cool pair of sunglasses, or a swish looking jacket. Or maybe you've been inspired by the message of a film to change something about your life.

Ok, before we get too heavy on the deep and meaningfuls, let's bring you up to speed. It seems that HD DVD has just got a bit more interesting, as a forthcoming release from Universal Studios will have an interactive feature that will allow you to surf the web and buy products that you have seen in the movie.

Evan Almighty, the follow up to 2003's highly successful Bruce Almighty, is set to be released on October 9th and will be the first such disc to include an online shopping feature, reports the Associated Press.

The film will have a simple web browser that connects to Universal's online store, where users will be able to peruse products which are related in some way to the movie. For instance, those inspired by its environmentally friendly message will be able to buy recycled toilet paper.

Evan Almighty will be a combination disc, with the HD DVD on one side and a standard DVD on the other. It will have a recommended retail price of $40 (£20).
