Strong sales drive demand for flat panel TVs
21 Feb 2008 17:31
Demand for flat screen TVs has been predicted to rise by more than 100 per cent in the next five years.According to the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Association (JEITA), while 75 million such TVs were sold in 2007, it is expected that there will be demand for about 155 million by 2012.
Significant growth in the China and US markets is expected to propel flat panel TV demand to new highs over the next half decade, the report suggested.
Other types of TV have also been predicted to enjoy a surge in demand, with plasma TVs potentially experiencing demand of 25 million units by 2012, compared with the 11.4 million plasma units that were sold over the course of 2007.
The report comes weeks after the JEITA announced that growth in excess of 30 per cent was seen by Japanese shipments of LCD TVs in 2007.
