the Toshiba HD-E1 high definition DVD player become the best selling HD DVD player It can often be hard to choose the best of a new bunch. And no, we're not talking about bananas. Although, if we're honest, choosing the best banana can be tricky sometimes too. But we digress.

What we really want to talk about is that fact that one of the snazziest Blu-ray Disc players on the market is doing exceptionally well.

Which means that while there are some indecisive people umming and ahhing over the latest products, there are some folk who have been able to make up their minds about which second gen DVD player to purchase - and they've plumbed for a rather cool one.

According to stats from the European HD DVD Group, the Toshiba HD-E1 high definition DVD player is beating all the competition and has come out on top in the race to be the most popular standalone high-def DVD player in Europe.

The research, carried out by Gfk, shows that in terms of sales, the HD-E1 took an average 74 per cent share of the market in the period from January to May this year. Moreover, it took a 71 per cent share from January 2006 until May 2007.

And the figures also reveal that sales of Toshiba's player increased by a whopping 72 per cent in May, perhaps indicating that its sales will go from strength to strength.
