Toshiba announces web-enabled HD DVDs

Toshiba HD DVDs are to be web-enabled Added extras are always nice aren't they? Like that sprinkle of chocolate you get on a cappuccino, the icing on the cake and, of course, a little extra dollop of technological wizardry for your favourite home entertainment product.

So grab your spoons and dig in to this delicious morsel of information, as we tell you that Toshiba has announced that its new HD DVD titles will be web-enabled, meaning that consumers will have access to loads more bonus features and additional content via the internet.

Those who own a Toshiba HD DVD player will be able to download and then save additional material from a movie studio's server by using the player's ethernet port, having made sure to install the new firmware update.

Speaking at Toshiba's summer press event on June 29th, Jodi Sally, vice president of marketing for Toshiba's digital A/V group, said: "Through web-enabled network connectivity, HD DVD is unlocking the door to an entirely new world of entertainment and once again achieving another milestone in next generation DVD.

"With HD DVD, studios have the ability to develop new and unique content for movie fans, enabling consumers to have an entirely new way to access entertainment and customise their home movie experience that is currently not available with any other format."
