Toshiba to release third generation High-Definition DVD players Ok, try not to get too excited - we know how much you love all this new-fangled second-generation DVD technology, but we've got some cracking news to share with you.

Toshiba has announced today (Tuesday) that it has done some pretty nifty work on its mid-range high-end players and spruced them up to such an extent that they now constitute a whole new generation of HD DVD players.

There are three players in total; the HD-A30, the HD-A3 and the HD-A35.

Not too many details to share with you at the moment, but we can tell you that the HD-A30 will have support for 1080p and the HD-A3 will feature 1080i output. The HD-A35 will also feature 1080p support, but in addition it will support Deep Color over HDMI, 5.1 channel analog audio output and High Bit Rate 7.1 Audio over HDMI.

Jodi Sally, vice president of marketing for Toshiba's Digital A/V Group, said: "With a majority market share in unit sales of next generation DVD players, consumers are speaking loud and clear, and they are adopting HD DVD as their HD movie format of choice.

"Because of the proven manufacturing efficiencies of the HD DVD format, Toshiba can bring this level of innovation in technology to a new generation of players with cutting-edge functionality at affordable prices."

The HD-A30 will hit the shops in September, priced at $399.99 (£200). The HD-A3 and HD-A35 will follow in October, priced at $299.99 (£150) and $499.99 (£250) respectively.
