Toshiba to use HDi logo

Toshiba will make use of Microsoft's HDi logo Microsoft's HDi logo is to appear on Toshiba high definition (HD) DVD players.

The trademarked symbol represents Microsoft's "high-performance implementation of the interactivity layer for the HD DVD format", which the company argues lets viewers take "movie-viewing experience to an entirely new level".

Commenting on the announcement, Jodi Sally, vice president for marketing for Toshiba America consumer products, said: "Toshiba is able to offer consumers a consistent movie-watching experience in a way that simply isn't possible with today's DVDs."

In addition to Toshiba's HD DVDs, the HDi symbol will also appear on Universal Studios Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment HD DVDs from the beginning of the fourth quarter.

Microsoft adds that movies soon be released under the HD DVD format include the recently released transformers film.

Earlier this year, Microsoft said that its HDi technology, which was originally launched in April 2006, would give customers an "unprecedented and unique" experience.
