Transformers does wonders for HD DVD

The Transformers HD DVD has proven to be very popular
Summer blockbuster Transformers, the big-screen version of that hugely popular 80s kids' series, has achieved something of a high-def triumph. Yes folks, the film about the all-changing robots has become the fastest-selling HD DVD to date.

The DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures title was released in North America on October 16th and shifted over 100,000 copies on its first day - more than any other HD DVD film. As such, it has become the best-selling HD DVD on the first day of release.

And having sold more than 190,000 HD DVDs in its first week, it has become the best-selling HD DVD ever. Which is pretty impressive we think you'll agree!

Michael Bay, director of the movie, said earlier this year that he would not make a sequel if it appeared on HD DVD, which is a statement that he later retracted. Judging by the sales, it's perhaps easy to see why.

Kelley Avery, president of worldwide home entertainment, Paramount Pictures, said: "The performance of the Transformers DVD and HD DVD has demonstrated the phenomenal success of this global franchise.

"We're happy to be kicking off the fourth quarter with a title that clearly shows home entertainment releases are still an event that drives consumers into stores - which is a win for both content providers and retailers."

Transformers is due to be released in the UK on December 3rd.
