Ventura to launch new HD DVD player

UK consumers will soon be able to watch HD DVDs for less A new low-cost HD DVD player from Ventura is to be launched in the UK, the firm announced today (November 29th).

The SHD7001 is a standalone player which can deliver 1080i video output via an HDMI connection to an HD-ready TV and features Dolby TrueHD sound.

Moreover, it is backwards-compatible and capable of playing older DVD formats. It can also upscale them, so that you can watch them in HD quality.

According to a statement from the firm, it "displays colours that are sublime and contrast rich, while motion, such as in sports action or high action films, which can quite often blur, is handled with ease delivering imperfection free visuals every time".

The SHD7001 also comes with an ethernet connection, which allows you to connect to an internet-enabled network and access various bonus features put in place by movie studios on HD DVDs.

David Rouse, Venturer sales director, said: "We are very excited about this product launch ... at last, an affordable solution for the many thousands of HDTV owners."

The player will initially be available via a shopping channel, and a price has yet to be announced.
