Warner delays HD/Blu-ray Discs until 2008

28 Jun 2007 15:00

Warner to release between 10 and 20 of HD/Blu-ray titles For indecisive folk, such as those who can't make up their minds whether to visit mangotango in the morning, afternoon or evening, the choice between Blu-ray Discs and HD DVDs must be something of a bother.

So, understandably, the prospect of a duel disc capable of playing HD material on both Blu-ray and HD DVD players is pretty exciting for them. However, it has recently come to light that they will have to hang on in there for a little while longer as Warner has delayed the release of the duel-format discs.

According to a statement released by the firm yesterday (Wednesday), Total HD will not make its way onto the market until 2008, despite a release date initially pencilled in for later this year.

Speaking at an entertainment conference, Steve Nickerson, senior vice president of marketing management for Warner, said that no exact date has been confirmed although he did indicate that the launch will feature between ten and 20 titles.

He said: "There is no expiration date on the viability of this concept, so we're not in a rush to do it. We'll do it when it makes sense and when it's right."

"Our research shows that there is demand for each of those products. We are trying to evaluate [how to best treat] each one of these releases," added Dan Miron, vice president of sales and planning and operations.
