100GB Blu-ray Disc from Hitachi
08 Oct 2007 12:04Good day to you mangotangoers! Are you bright-eyed, bushy-tailed and ready for another technology-tastic week?! Of course you are! So it goes without saying that regardless of it being Monday, you will be keen to hear the latest news about all things Blu-ray.
As such, we know you will be intrigued by this little bit of information we have come across - Hitachi has reportedly created a brand new Blu-ray Disc that is capable of storing 100GB of data.
The four-layer disc stores 25GB per layer and it is thought that existing Blu-ray drives will only need a firmware upgrade in order to be able to play them, PC Pro reports.
Various other companies have already created a 100GB Blu-ray Disc but to use them consumers have needed to fit a specially developed optical head into their players.
And what's more, it appears that the electronics firm isn't going to stop there. Hitachi has plans to create an eight-layer Blu-ray Disc that is capable of storing a humungous 200GB of data.
