The Spartan army unleash hell on Blu-ray Zach Snyder's epic 300 has scooped the Best High-Def DVD award at the first ever Home Media Magazine HD disc honours, it has emerged.

Based on Frank Miller's graphic novel of the same name, 300 tells the story of a small band of elite Spartan warriors who hold off the attack of the mighty Persian army who seek to add their land to the growing Greek empire of 480 BC.

The movie is distributed by Warner Bros and is available in HD DVD format, but was given the Best High Def DVD title based on its entry into the Blu-ray range.

Among the other winners at the awards were Disney/Pixar's Ratatouille, which picked up the gong for Best Animated Blu-ray disc and Paramount's Transformers, which won the Best Audio Quality award in the HD DVD catagory.

Earlier this year, Transformers director Michael Bay threatened that he would not be attached to a sequel for the film if Paramount continued to push the HD DVD format - as the movie-maker is a staunch supporter of Blu-ray technology.
