Advanced Blu-ray players from Matsushita
03 Oct 2007 12:41Sometimes, less is more. In the big wonderful world of modern technology, though, it is generally the case that more is more - especially if that 'more' is more space!
So it should be pleasant news to hear that Japanese firm Matsushita has unveiled a crop of new Blu-ray recorders that are capable of putting a whopping 18 hours of stuff onto a single 50GB disc. Impressive or what!
Showcased at this year's Createc show in Japan, the DMR-BW700, DMR-BW800, and the DMR-BW900 can store video to their internal hard drives (250GB, 500GB, and one terabyte respectively) as well as to recordable Blu-ray Discs.
The 1TB DMR-BW900 can store anything from 160 to 380 hours of high-definition video and all three recorders support AVCHD playback, 7.1 surround sound TrueHD and DTS-HD audio.
Prices will be approximately JPY180,000 (£760) for the 250GB recorder, JPY230,000 (£970) for the 500GB recorder and JPY300,000 (£1,200) for the 1TB recorder. They are due to be released in Japan on November 1st but as yet no US or European release date has been announced.
