Apple iPod given Blu-ray boost

Rambo will feature in one of the first releases Apple has entered into a deal with Lions Gate Entertainment that will see buyers of the some of the Hollywood studios content able to download iPod compatible content.

According to BusinessWeek a range of DVD and Blu-ray discs could soon hit the shelves that will allow consumers to access the iTunes store and obtain a digital copy of the movie they have purchased for use with the media player.

It is reported that the first releases to feature this new technology will be special edition versions of Sylvester Stallone's Rambo and Jessica Alba's recent horror remake The Eye.

When inserting the disc and running iTunes, users will be prompted to enter a proof of purchase code which will allow them to access the digital verion of the movie - which will then be stored in their library.

Stallone returned to the Rambo franchise this year for the fourth time having had success with the latest installation of the Rocky series, Rocky Balboa.
