Blu-ray technology boost Lionsgate offerings

21 Dec 2007 16:03

Saw IV could be a big seller for Lionsgate Independent studio Lionsgate has announced that it is boosting its Blu-ray releases this January with state-of-the-art interactive technology.

The next-generation online features will be incorporated into the January releases of action film War and horror sequel Saw IV and will allow people to interact over the internet.

Compatible with new Blu-ray players, the forthcoming Blu-ray disc of War - which stars Jason Statham and Jet Li - will include a new network-connected game that enables consumers to play against one another online.

The new Blu-ray release of Saw IV will feature a movie blog, or 'Moblog', which lets users discuss and post comments about the film. Grossing $63 million (£32 million) at the box office, the release of Saw IV is expected to be one of Lionsgate's more popular offerings in 2008.

With January rather than pre-Christmas releases, Lionsgate is attempting to create a 'fifth season' for new DVD releases and attract the custom of people who receive gift cards for Christmas.

The new interactive web-connected features were put on display by Lionsgate at the recent Web 2.0 conference in Los Angeles.
