Digital TV switchover 'going ahead well'

27 Dec 2007 16:06

Digital switchover Most people will be ready for the digital TV switchover as the project continues to proceed on schedule for 2012, one expert has suggested.

A spokesman for Digital UK, the independent body put in place by the government to offer help and advice with the initiative, said that trial schemes to implement the switchover had gone well and that most homes in the UK were ready for the changes.

Jon Steel, spokesperson for Digital UK, said: "In terms of how ready the country is, yesterday Ofcom published their quarterly report on the state of the market, and that's now 85 per cent in terms of homes with digital equipment."

He said that this level of awareness had continued to grow but warned that there were still some areas where the organisation needed to offer more advice.

"Lots of people still have questions about it or are unsure about certain aspects of the switchover, so that's our next big task," he said.

According to the Ofcom report, which was released following the third quarter of 2007, the total proportion of households with digital television has now reached 85.1 per cent.
