Disney loves Blu-ray

Disney to promote Blu-ray There's nothing like an endorsement from one of the world's leading brands to make a product seem all the more attractive, is there?

Not that Blu-ray Discs are without their fair share of attention, least of all because of the quality of their high-def material and perhaps more so because of the war currently raging between the format and HD DVDs, but being promoted by a big name company will almost certainly give them a bit of a boost.

The next-gen discs are to be the focus of a new Disney road show, which will feature movie stations, an interactive video-game, a mini cinema and huge widescreens.

With the aim of informing consumers that to make the most of Blu-ray Discs they should be played on Blu-ray players and watched on HDTVs, Disney's Magical Blu-ray Tour will begin in August and make stops at 18 large shopping malls across the US, finishing in December.

Commenting on the road show, Bob Chapek, president of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, said: "There's a lot of consumer confusion out there, and we want to help everyone understand this amazing new technology."
