Epic loves Blu-ray

16 Aug 2007 11:39

Sony PlayStation 3 Console (Blu-ray) Everyone loves a little bit extra, don't they? Even if that something is as simple as an extra dollop of cream on your strawberries, it's hard to deny that getting a smidge more is a good thing.

And so too with technology, where getting more than you bargained for is never an unwelcome surprise. Unless of course you have been given a load of VHS tapes, in which case you may feel a bit disgruntled.

Mark Rein, vice president of Epic Games, is clearly a man who appreciates that the old adage less is more is not always true.

At the recent Edinburgh Interactive Festival Mr Rein was heard to be waxing lyrical about the fantasticness of Blu-ray, and how fab it is that the little discs are capable of storing so much information.

He revealed that the Playstation 3 version of upcoming title Unreal Tournament 3 is going rather well - largely thanks to the spacious nature of Blu-ray Discs.

Speaking about the game, to be released on the PS3 before the Xbox, he said: "We may have fewer maps on the 360 version…Blu-ray has definitely given us a lot of legroom.

"If you think down the road, well maybe the next UT beyond this one, on Blu-ray Disc, we might fill the whole damn disc with all the cool stuff the mod makers make."
