08 Jun 2007 12:25

Toshiba will have a HD DVD drive on all of its laptop computers. Blu-ray Discs or HD DVDs? HD or Blu-ray? HD? Are you sure?

Well, as you make up your mind which second generation format you prefer, listen to a bit of interesting and related info about Toshiba.

The pros and cons of both Blu-ray and HD are being weighed up by companies and consumers alike at the moment, but the electronics firm has decided to go for high-def and stick an HD DVD drive in all of its laptop computers.

Toshiba is planning on having a drive in all of its portable PCs by 2008. The firm has not yet confirmed whether this will affect the price of products, although they are expecting to sell them for a recommended retail price of about $3,286 (£1,670), Reuters news agency reports.

The announcement was made on Tuesday (June 5th) by Toshiba's senior vice President Hisatsugu Nonaka, who added that the notebooks will also be flash-based, and will be readily available by the middle of next year.

Speaking at a press conference, he said: "The demand is there: people want to watch their favourite movies in high-definition. We think flash laptops are about ready to break into the consumer market, and will start to catch on around next summer."
