High-def disc format war 'a stalemate'

12 Nov 2007 18:15

Shoppers just aren't sure which is best! We don't know about you mangotangoers but sometimes we feel as though we are going round in circles when it comes to this Blu-ray disc verses HD DVD malarkey.

However, this might all be about to come to an end - for now at least - if Sony chief executive Sir Howard Stringer is to be believed.

The electronics bigwig has spoken out about the so-called format war and declared it a "stalemate" and a "difficult fight" because although HD has affordability on its side, Blu-ray has more exclusive backers.

Speaking to media last Thursday (November 8th) in New York City, Sir Stringer said it will probably come down to prestige when the winner is finally determined.

"It doesn't mean as much as all that," he said.

"We were trying to win on the merits, which we were doing for a while, until Paramount changed sides."

Intriguing stuff or what!
