Millions of Brits want an iPhone

18 Jun 2007 13:40

Interested in buying an iPhone? Getting your hands on the latest piece of up-to-the-minute technology is a must for many people - particularly if the gadget in question is a cool new phone that incorporates an insanely popular MP4 player.

Apple's iPhone is set to be released in the UK at the end of this year, but according to a recent survey a whopping seven million of you are already intent on purchasing this swish new device.

The research, conducted by M:Metrics, also shows that 56 per cent of people in the UK have some awareness of the iPhone, as do 64 per cent of people in the US - where the phone is due to be released into the consumer market at the end of this month.

Mark Donovan, senior vice president and senior analyst for M:Metrics, said: "This data confirms that the iPhone has sparked the imaginations of consumers and is not merely a topic of conversation among insiders and technology enthusiasts.

"We expected that mobile users in the UK would be more inclined to buy an expensive device, since smartphones are twice as popular in the UK as in the US. These figures are very impressive, although respondents in the UK were not presented with a launch price or any restriction of mobile phone carrier as in the US", M:Metrics analyst Paul Goode added.
