Panasonic's new player will go really well with an HDTV Have you ever stopped and wondered what the next generation high-definition 1080p Blu-ray Disc player might look like? Well, ponder no more, because according to one electronics firm this fab product has now been invented.

Panasonic has made the claim about its new DMP-BD30, which is the first standalone Blu-ray player to have a Final Standard Profile.

Confused? Don't be. What this means is that the player has an advanced function which adds a bunch of great features to it, such as Picture-in-Picture which displays a second image in a sub window on the main image, and Audio Mixing which allows users to switch the sounds between the main and sub windows.

Gene Kelsey, vice president, Panasonic Entertainment Group, has asserted that as a result the DMP-BD30 will allow for enhanced viewing pleasure and will be a strong player in the high-def market.

He said: "Not only do these features give Panasonic a strong advantage in the high definition market, but they provide the movie community with numerous opportunities to embellish the viewing experience with additional creative elements."

The DMP-BD30 will have a recommended retail price of $499 (£250).
