12 Jun 2007 15:00

New Sony Ericsson mobile phone will not include features of the PSP The latest mobile phone from Sony Ericsson will not be based on the PSP, according to a report from Reuters.

It had been presumed by some that the design of the new phone would take inspiration from the portable platform, but the company has refuted such suggestions, saying that the quality of Sony Ericsson's products does not need to be boosted by gaming technology.

Sony Ericsson, the fourth largest maker of mobile phones in the world, filed an application for a new mobile with the US Patent & Trademark Office on May 31st this year for a phone that has gaming capabilities.

However, spokesperson Merran Wrigley told the news agency: "We're continually evaluating other propositions but they have to be credible propositions. We're not interested in sticking parts on phones that destroy the brand equity that's been built up by Sony."

The company asserted that while such a product is a distinct possibility, it is not prepared to make any announcement about if or when such a device will be made at the moment.
