Panasonic: Blu-ray will win by New Year

03 Oct 2007 15:00

Panasonic promotes Blu-ray It's all gone very Blu at the moment, don't you think mangotango fans? As much as you can try and avoid news about the wonderful world of Blu-ray (although, to be honest, why would you?!) information about this marvellous format is pretty much everywhere.

And it seems that there is a very good reason for this facts and figures fest - Blu-ray is going to beat rival product HD DVD in the second-gen DVD war.

That's according to Matsushita Electric Industrial's (the Japanese firm best known for its Panasonic brand), which has suggested that Blu-ray manufacturers will start offering great bargains to consumers during the Christmas shopping period and that by the New Year it will be ready to reign supreme in the market.

Matsushita's Kazuhiro Tsuga revealed his prediction at a press briefing at Japanese tech trade show Createc and added that after January it will probably take a further year before Blu-ray cements its victory.

He said: "The BD (Blu-ray disc) companies will try to do our best to promote Blu-ray. The studios want us to put money in to promote it.

"By the end of the year, you will see good products with very good promotion."
