'Quick start' Blu-ray player from Sharp

The BD-HP20S the new Blu-ray Disc player from Sharp Hold onto your hats, Blu-ray fans - we've got some news for you.

Sharp Electronics has announced the release of its latest Blu-ray player, which will be the first second-generation DVD player from the firm to have a 'Quick Start' function. Exciting stuff? Absolutely!

The BD-HP20S will be released this autumn, and while the recommended retail price is yet to be announced, according to Blu-ray.com the player will have HDMI v1.3, 5.1 analog outs, and it will have a 1080p, 24fps and 60fps output. In addition, it will support Dolby TrueHD.

And remember that cool Quick Start option we mentioned earlier? This nifty feature means that the player will start up discs seconds after they are inserted.

Engadget.com points out that while some commentators have dubbed this the first Blu-ray player from Sharp, it is in fact preceded by the BD-MPC70, the BD-HD100, the BD-MPC10 and the BD-HP1, and that this is probably just the first such player to come without a recorder or receiver.

Still, it is expected to be very reasonably priced, which is pretty good news in itself!
