Sharp in LCD patent row with Samsung
07 Aug 2007 10:05Oh dear, it seems that you can't be too careful with your top-of-the-range designs these days, as Sharp has just found out.
The electronics firm has filed a lawsuit against Samsung after accusing the company of infringing five of its liquid crystal display patents, including those used in its televisions, mobile phones and computer monitors.
According to a statement released by the firm: "In the complaint, Sharp requests that the Court award compensatory damages to Sharp and prohibit the sales of the infringing products. Sharp also requests a jury trial."
The suit was filed in the US on Monday August 6th in the Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
Sharp spokesperson Miyuki Nakayama told Reuters: "We have been in talks with Samsung, but it appears difficult to solve the matter through negotiations. So, our primary purpose is to move the situation forward by filing a lawsuit."
All part and parcel of the cut-throat world of top-notch television production, we suppose!
