31 Aug 2007 14:36

New low-cost Blu-ray player BDP-S300 from Sony Ah, we've had a short week thanks to the Bank Holiday and now Friday has come around quicker than usual so we're in a very chipper mood!

So imagine how doubly pleased we were this morning when we discovered that not only is it Saturday tomorrow, but that Sony has unveiled a cracking new product.

The electronics firm has showcased its low-cost Blu-ray player at the IFA in Berlin - and after hearing about the specs we can safely say that this product sounds pretty good!

It is thought that the BDP-S300 will have a recommended retail price of $400 (£200) which would make it the cheapest free-standing Blu-ray player on the market.

The BDP-S300 has a 1080p output and decoding of Dolby TrueHD. It also capable of upscaling DVD to 1080p, comes with 5.1 analogue audio outputs and can play standard CDs.

And what's more, Sony will be offering the Spider-Man trilogy Blu-ray disc set free when consumers register their player and complete an online survey.
