Sony lowers price of Blu-ray player

04 Jun 2007 14:26

The price of Sony’s BDP-S300 Blu-ray player has been reduced Deciding on a new addition to your home entertainment set-up often involves taking several things into consideration, including sound and picture quality, size, and of course the cost.

So when shopping around it's always nice to hear when something has been made that little bit cheaper. And one such product that has recently gone down in price is the latest Blu-ray player from Sony.

The BDP-S300 was launched in February with a recommended retail price of $599 (£301). However, Sony has announced that it has chopped $100 (£50) of the price to make it $499 (£250).

This is half the price of the firm's first Blu-ray player, the BDP-S, which was launched six months ago, and it is also comparatively smaller. However, it is still capable of performing the same functions, the Associated Press reports.

According to Chris Fawcett, vice president of Sony Electronics' home products division, the price has been cut to reflect the increasing popularity of Blu-ray products and the falling costs of producing the players.
