Sony has launched new portable DVD player: The DVP-FX850 With the summer almost here, many people will be gearing up for a holiday and some well-earned rest and relaxation.

Unfortunately this can often mean trying to entertain grumpy passengers on the journey, or miserable holidaymakers stuck indoors when the sunshine vanishes and the downpours begin.

But do not despair, for there is often a handy technological solution to such matters which are considerably more fun than, say, trying to play hide and seek in a caravan.

Sony is clearly on the ball in this respect, and has just released it latest nifty bit of home entertainment in the shape of a portable DVD player. A very practical design, the DVP-FX850 has an eight-inch widescreen display which produces top-notch picture quality, powerful integrated stereo speakers and twin headphone outputs.

Moreover, the screen has a scratch-resistant coating and can be moved through a full 180 degrees, making this little player pretty robust and versatile.

Hiro Shinohara, Sony's director of home video, said: "Essentially what the DVP-FX850 gives you is freedom. It can go anywhere, you can set it up in seconds, and it has great battery life, so it just keeps on going. It's perfect for anyone with a footloose lifestyle who loves movies and wants to be able to enjoy them wherever and whenever they choose."
