Tuesday is never the most exciting day of the week is it? Monday is done and dusted, but it's still a pretty long stretch until the weekend. Still, there is always some interesting news at good old mangotango to keep your brain merrily ticking over until Saturday rolls into view! And what a gem we have for you this morning. It appears that Acer has unveiled what it claims to be the first desktop PC to feature a combo drive that supports both the HD DVD and the Blu-ray format. Oo-er we hear you exclaim!
The PC is part of its new Aspire M5630 series and it is powerful enough to play multimedia applications and for gaming because it features Intel's Core 2 Quad processor Q6600 (2.4GHz with 8MB L2 cache).
As such, it can play 1920 x 1080 resolution HD content via either Blu-ray discs or HD DVD discs.
Raymond Vardanega of Acer Computer Australia commented: "Acer realised that the battle between Blu-ray and HD-DVD is still in play, and therefore understood the need to create a solution that future proofed our offering in the market."
Prices for the Aspire M5630 range start from AUD2,299 (£998) and other features include Vista Home Premium, a 2GB DDR2 system memory, a wireless keyboard and mouse and a HDCP compliant Acer 22-inch wide LCD monitor.
