TomTom sells record numbers of sat navs

TomTom lead sells of Satellite Navigations Syatems The name that springs to most people's minds when they think of Sat Nav devices is Dutch firm TomTom, and for good reason.

This month the company announced that it had sold its ten millionth navigation product, illustrating the success of a firm that helps people get from A to B "in a safe, stress-free and efficient way".

Over the past 12 months the company ha doubled its base of installed products, giving it the largest number of customers in the industry.

More than a million customers have registered for the company's TomTom HOME service, the navigation community that allows access to maps and other services.

"We are very proud to be leading the way in this growing market and attribute our success to our vision and on-going commitment to delivering fundamentally better navigation," said company chief executive Harold Goddijn.

"Selling ten million products is an important milestone in TomTom's history, but it is only the start of the story. As more and more drivers across Europe demand high quality, innovative and easy to use navigation solutions, we expect to see this growth continue."

Products include the TomTom GO 910, which includes maps of Europe, the US and Canada stored on a hard disc.
