Warner stays firmly in the middle

06 Nov 2007 13:00

Warner is sticking with both formats for now Contradiction is hard to escape from sometimes, particularly in the public arena. So perhaps it shouldn't take you by surprise to hear that someone from Warner Home Video has piped up to contest the firm's recent comments about backing Blu-ray.

Last week, the studio's vice president of high-definition media, Dan Silverberg, hinted that Warner is planning to give up its neutrality and opt to solely support Blu-ray as opposed to both high-def disc formats.

However, Jim Noonan, senior vice president of strategic promotion and communication, has spoken to High-Def Digest and affirmed that Warner is planning to stick with both HD DVDs and Blu-ray discs for the foreseeable future.

"I can tell you that Warner's position has not changed and I know that Dan did not intend to suggest that wasn't the case. We support both formats and we have made no decision to alter that policy, nor are there any such announcements coming, or being planned."

"Like any major company, we are always reviewing our strategies in every aspect of our business, it is what smart companies do. I can't say what may happen five, ten years down the line. But right now, Warner Bros has made no decision to change course. We are still onboard with both formats and will continue, just as we have in the past, in supporting HD DVD and Blu-ray."

Should any further comments arise we won't hesitate to let you know!
