iPhone released today

29 Jun 2007 14:38

Apple's iPhone The iPhone, one of the market's most hotly anticipated mobile phones, has been released in the US today.

Apple's latest piece of technical wizardry is so desired by some people that they have been outside stores for days to guarantee themselves the chance to walk away with one on the day of release.

And is perhaps little wonder that so many consumers are drooling over the iPhone, given the number of cool features. For one thing, it can also be used as a media player, and media can be downloaded onto it from iTunes. It also has a 3.5-inch touch-screen, a camera, and is available with either four or eight gigabytes of memory.

Speaking prior to the iPhone's release, Steve Jobs, Apple's chief executive officer, said: "With eight hours of talk time, and 24 hours of audio playback, iPhone's battery life is longer than any other Smartphone and even longer than most MP3 players.

"We've also upgraded iPhone's entire top surface from plastic to optical-quality glass for superior scratch resistance and clarity. There has never been a phone like iPhone, and we can't wait to get this truly magical product into the hands of customers."

The 4GB iPhone is priced at $499 (£250) and the 8BG model is priced at $599 (£300). It is due to be released in Europe in 2008.
