2008: year of the LCD TV?

02 Jan 2008 14:17

LG is one manufacturer improving its LCD range LCD TV's will be big sellers this year, one website predicts.

The move towards full high-definition (HD) television will be accompanied by more people opting for LCD TV's, according to one expert.

In an article for Wired, Jose Fermoso predicts that HD TVs will continue to come down in price and that some of the breakthroughs in LCD technology will ensure that more people will be taking advantage of HD video, camcorders and internet streaming in 2008.

He adds that predictions by Microsoft head Bill Gates two years ago that gadgets will talk intelligently to one another in living rooms across the world will become more realistic this year as "various electronic ecosystems begin supporting each other".

"This year … the name of the game is high-def. HD content, HD camcorders, HD video streaming over the internet and a host of wireless technologies to support all this HD data," he states.

It is also noted that plasma screens of the past have been at the forefront of home cinema technology as they were able to offer deeper blacks and better viewing angles but that this could be set to change as the year progresses.
