A compact PS2?

Quite possibly, if a recent report in trade publication MCV is anything to go by.
It has been claimed that the electronics giant is intending to redesign the PS2 so that it has a built-in power supply, meaning that it could be manufactured for less and thus retail for a lower price.
Sony has already come out with a smaller version of the PS2, which currently has a recommended retail price of £94.99 but it is thought that this even more compact model could well be priced at around £75 and will be launched in early 2008.
The report said: "The news will surely come as a blow to Sony rivals Nintendo and Microsoft, who have seen sales of PS2 suffer somewhat due to the introduction of [the] Wii and Xbox 360 in recent years."
A spokesperson for Sony declined to comment on the rumour.
