A plasma TV? ... or a full head of hair?

Luxury home entertainment product? Or a full head of hair? If you asked most men which items they would buy if they were to go on their dream shopping trip, you would expect them to rattle off a list of items such as a high-definition TV, a flash car, a top-notch stereo and the latest mobile phone.

However, you may be surprised to hear that a lot of fellas would give up the chance to have all these swish products for some lovely locks.

According to a recent survey conducted by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS), 57 per cent of men would gladly swap prized possessions such as their car and their shiny laptop for a full head of hair.

The results of the online poll show that 26 per cent of participants would swap their stereo for hair, 21 would swap their mobile phone, and 17 per cent would trade in their car, although just 13 per cent would hand over their plasma TV.

Dr Alan J Bauman, a hair restoration specialist and member of the ISHRS, believes that mens' willingness to give up luxury home entertainment items in exchange for an end to hair loss indicated that baldness is a serious cause of anxiety for many gents.

Commenting on the findings, he said: "Hair loss can be a devastating condition for many men, leading to anxiety, loss of self-confidence and a general feeling of helplessness. This survey is a great testament to the desperation many men feel about losing their hair."
