Battle for the thinnest screen continues

08 Jan 2008 07:54

Manufacturers are currently trying to create the world's thinnest panel Japanese consumer electronics manufacturer JVC has unveiled a new LCD TV panel that is less than three inches thick, it has emerged.

According to Reuters, the new screen - which is on display at this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas - is one of four new panels on display at the JVC stand, each of which are also fitted with an iPod dock.

The news agency reports that JVC revealed the new LCD TV this week and claimed that at 2.9 inches it represented the world's thinnest flat-screen television.

However, this was later challenged by a concept screen unveiled by rival company Pioneer which the company claimed was around nine millimetres (0.34 inches) in thickness.

Although the JVC models are to be made available to consumers this year it is noted that the Pioneer range is still in concept phase and it has not been confirmed when or if the screens will be available to the general public.

The CES runs until Thursday this week and is the largest consumer electronics trade show in the US.
