CRT screens 'will be around for some time'

31 Mar 2008 17:42

CRT screens: around for some time yet? The death of the cathode ray tube (CRT) screen may have been greatly exaggerated, according to one expert.

In an article for the Consumer Electronics and TV Manufacturers Association's (CETMA) trade journal CETMA News, chairman of the Samtel Group Satish Kaura states that CRT has a bright future if manufacturers are prepared to put in the work.

According to the Hindu Business Line, Mr Kaura believes that CRT TV manufacturers need to find ways to cut the sizes of the screens they offer and that manufacturers such as Samsung and LG have led the way in doing this in the past.

Although the rise of the flat panel TV is acknowledged, the article goes on to state that there is still a market for CRT and that in terms of size a 20-inch LCD cannot stand up to the picture of its older siblings.

"If produced in large quantities, in about three years' time, one could see the prices of regular and ultra slim tube TVs would be the same," the newspaper suggests Mr Kaura said in his article.
