Consumers think Plasma is better than LCD

06 Sep 2007 11:35

Do you favour Plasma panels over LCD TVs? Good day to you, dear mangotangoers. We hope you are feeling sprightly and raring to go! If not, we're sure this little bit of news will wake you up in no time.

Now, we know how much you techy fans love a bit of a battle, so we had to let you know that, according to a recent survey, it seems that European consumers have decided that they favour plasma tellies over their LCD counterparts.

The study, from research company Synovate, claims that although most people will say that the two types of set are pretty much equal in terms of picture quality, they will soon change their tune once they have sat down and watched something on them.

Synovate has said that after trying out both sets, consumers will change their mind and say that plasma is best, reghardware.co.uk reports.

A total of 1,398 consumers from London, Cologne, Madrid, Milan and Paris were shown a 90-second 1080i HD video on both plasma and LCD sets. Before the viewing, 52 per cent of participants said that they favoured plasma, while 48 per cent said LCD.

However, following the viewing, the number of people who plumed for plasma TVs rose to 61 per cent, while those who preferred LCD TVs dropped to 39 per cent.

Interesting stuff, eh?! Still, it is worth bearing in mind that the study was paid for by plasma makers Pioneer, Panasonic and Hitachi (although the latter do both make LCD sets too!).
