DSG to take analogue TVs off the shelf

24 Jan 2008 11:52

Analogue TVs no longer available at some retailers DSG International has become the first electronic retailer to stop stocking analogue televisions and move to a 100 per cent digital range.

The group's chain, which includes Currys, PC World and Dixons.co.uk, will transfer to a digital-only television range with immediate effect.

DSG is the UK's market leader in the sale of televisions and has sold almost two million televisions within the last 12 months through its retail outlets.

Stores will offer buyers of remaining analogue televisions the option of a digital set-top box to ensure that the televisions are capable of receiving digital broadcasts once switchover takes place.

Peter Keenan, managing director of Currys, said: "We believe that it is appropriate to ensure that our customers are able to select from a future-proof range of televisions. Integrated digital televisions offer superior technology."

Between 2008 and 2012, television services in the UK will go completely digital, as part of a government digital switch over policy.
