Dispelling the myths behind plasma screens

18 Dec 2007 18:35

Plasma TV In an article for pcmag.com, Robert Heron states that many of the issues which used to plague many plasma units have now been eradicated by the manufacturers and that this should not affect the decision of those looking for a new screen.

Mr Heron states that problems such as image retention, which is also known as "burn-in", have largely been addressed by manufacturers and adds that some of the myths surrounding the format should also be dispelled.

"A misconception about plasma TVs is that they can leak gas over time. Sorry, no - plasma televisions do not "leak" gas or require periodic recharging," he said.

He goes on to state that any model that is bought today is of a high enough quality to potentially last for over 11 years and that this was something that plasma screen manufacturers "couldn't guarantee a decade ago".

This week, a report put together by DisplaySearch revealed that global sales of HD TVs were on the rise and that Samsung was at the forefront of global sales, according to hiddenwires.co.uk.
