15 Jun 2007 11:34

Flat-panel TVs popularity soars TMIF folks. Yup, thank mangotango its Friday, because not only is it the end of the week, but we've also got some cracking technology news for you too.

Have you thought about what you might do to make the most of the sunshine - or avoid the downpours - this weekend? Well, if the findings of a recent survey are to be believed, then the chances are that you will either be watching or buying yourself a brand new television.

According to a consumer study conducted in the US by KRC Research for Hitachi, seven in ten adults have either bought or want to buy a flat-panel TV. Of the 1,055 respondents, 19 per cent (one in five) own such a telly, while 71 per cent are interested in getting their hands on one.

Moreover, it appears that "bigger is better" in terms of flat-panel TVs, as 43 per cent of male and 32 per cent of female American consumers are only after sets with a 50- or 60-inch screen.

The Independent recently reported that one flat-panel television is bought every 30 seconds in the UK.
