Games consoles the answer to HD confusion?

20 Nov 2007 12:10

A Blu-ray disc player is tempting, but you could opt for a PS3 until you are sure Sony's PlayStation 3 console or Microsoft's Xbox 360 could be the answer that consumers who are a bit puzzled by the second-generation format war could be seeking.

That is according to a report from the Associated Press, which has recognised the units as totally accessible options for watching Blu-ray discs or HD DVDs in light of the fact that this particular technological battle is far from over.

Studios and electronics firms are still unsure which way the war will go and as such it is hard to determine whether or not it is worth splashing out on a Blu-ray or HD player.

For people who are a bit indecisive, but who still want to enjoy top-quality high-def viewing, the PS3 and the Xbox 360, which are capable of playing Blu-ray discs and HD DVDs respectively, could be a temporary solution.

AP writer May Wong noted: "If you don't want to end up with a useless piece of equipment but still want a taste of the crisp, clear pictures of HD, perhaps game consoles can be your answer.

"The PS3 has a built-in Blu-ray drive and is one of the most affordable Blu-ray players on the market, while an HD DVD player can be added onto the Xbox 360."
