HDTV at Formula One races

15 May 2007 11:37

Formula One switch to HDTV Sometimes, going to a live sporting event is more hassle than it's worth. The food is too expensive, you may get sat next to the world's most obnoxious fan, and you'll probably end up craning your neck trying to get a good look at the action.

It's much more fun watching it all from the comfort of your sofa, right?

Good news then, that one such event is to have high definition television feeds later this year, making the home viewing experience even more enjoyable.

Bernie Ecclestone is planning to improve the quality of the live coverage of Formula One by making an HD feed available to F1's television partners, autosport.com reports.

The exact date of the switch to HDTV coverage is not known, but global satellite broadcasting company SISLink was due to bring a HDTV ready broadcasting truck to this weekend's round of F1 at Barcelona. However, Ecclestone emphasised that the current concern was with widescreen.

He said: "The trouble with High Definition is that there are not many people who have got the equipment to receive it, so there is not much point.

"We are really broadcasting for the big screen now, rather than worrying about HD."
