Halo 3 is a record breaker

27 Sep 2007 17:21

HD DVD and Blu-ray battle means price drop?! Halo 3 is estimated to have broken $170 million (£84 million) in its first 24 hours on sale in the US, Microsoft has announced.

Number crunchers have revealed that the Xbox 360 game has beaten sales records previously set by films like Spiderman and the Harry Potter novels.

Microsoft corporate vice president Shane Kim added that September 25th also will go down in the history books as the most active Xbox Live gaming day after more than a million people went online to play the 'shoot-em-up' video game.

The senior vice president of video game retailer GameStop, Bob McKenzie, has said he expects the game to become the largest game generator in the company's history.

Some 1.7 million copies of Halo 3 were pre-ordered in the US, making it the most demanded computer game in history, digitalspy.com reports.

"Not only is Halo 3 setting sales records, it's also redefining entertainment," Mr Kim is quoted to have said.

The Halo trilogy is based on the adventures of main character John-117, known as The Master Chief, who is the last of an elite group of genetically superior soldiers.
