Harry Potter works magic on UK game charts

17 Jul 2007 12:48

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Are you being swept along by Harry Potter mania this week, dear techie fan? If you are, then you have probably already seen the latest film, eagerly pre-ordered the seventh and final book and busied away several hours playing the computer game.

If not, then you'll have at least heard about the teenage wizard and his magical exploits in the news.

Either way, you'll be aware of the popularity of JK Rowling's fictional character, and as such you should be unsurprised to learn that not only is he topping the film charts, and is soon to top the book charts, Harry Potter is riding high in the game charts too.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is at number one in the UK all-formats charts for the third week running. The game mirrors the plot of Rowling's book, and sees Harry and his chums battle against the evil Lord Voldemort.

The game is currently beating Nintendo's More Brain Training from Dr Kawashima, which is sitting at number two, and Shrek the Third from Activision at three. Wii Play is at number four, while Mario Party 8 has gone straight in at number five even though it has been recalled due to a technical error.

The remainder of the chart is comprised of the original Dr Kawashima's Brain Training, Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and The Darkness from 2K Games at numbers six, seven and eight respectively.

Cooking Mama for DS from 505 Games is at number nine, and Forza Motorsport 2 for the Xbox 360 is at number ten.
